I have an early 2008 Mac Pro with 2 by quad core 2.88 processors. It has 5 USB ports three on the back and two on the front. I want the permanent devices to be plugged in the rear sockets and the optional devices plugged in the front when and as required. I have added a Belkin 7 way USB Hub part number FSU237 to one of the rear ports but it is incredibly picky as to what devices it will work with - OK with the Epson 4490 scanner and the Seagate FreeAgent drive but does not work with the Wacom pad, or the APC power supplier the Logitech webcam. Do you have any reccomendations for multiway USB hubs that are genuinely able to handle all the devices or the part numbers of any USB cards that I could place in the computer to give additional USB support. Searching on the web there is a considerable degree of dissatisfaction mentioned re the capabilities of multi way USB Hubs. All that is advertised is not delivered. Hi cwog, I purchased a USB 2.0 Powered 4 port Hub from Cable City.co.uk in August last year, and I have had no problems with it at all. It is plugged in to one of the rear USB ports on my 2009 Mac Pro, and I have the following items connected to its ports: 1) Apple Keyboard 2) Wacom Intuos 4 A4 Graphics Pad 3) Epson Perfection V750 Pro Scanner 4) Canon Pixma MP640 Multifunction Inkjet Printer My Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Inkjet Printer and Brother HL-5340D Mono laser Printer are plugged in to the Mac Pro's other 2 rear USB ports. Like you, I use the 2 front USB ports for occasional devices such as USB card readers, digital cameras, and charging & updating my TomTom. I know that the hub I am using has only 4 ports, whereas you need 7, but it might be worth trying one, and then, if it works with all your accessories, you could add another to one of the 2 other rear ports.
